Meet the prestigious interior designer

Conoce a la prestigiosa diseñadora de interiores

Today I would like to introduce you to a Catalan interior designer who is already a benchmark in her sector on the Costa del Sol. Her name is Marta Domenech and she is dedicated to decoration by vocation. She is an example of perseverance, hard work, and struggle. We asked her 10 questions to get to know her better, as she is revolutionizing interior design with her work.

Interior designer Marta Domenech

1. Your name is a great reference throughout the province of Malaga within the decoration and interior design sector. You haven't always worked in this field; in fact, you have been a very versatile woman. How did you realize your vocation as an interior designer?

It was after a professional setback. I was lost and didn't know which way to go. Some friends offered to let me join them on their trip to India, and I didn't think twice. During a ride on the mini-bus that was taking us from one city to another, a friend asked me why I didn't just put my fears aside and dedicate myself to what I really liked. I came back and started preparing for the entrance exams to the School of Art, and here I am today. A great decision that changed my life.

2. How do you handle managing a sector that is mainly male-dominated?

Honestly, I have had few problems with sexism on construction sites. I try to treat everyone well, and I get back what I give. When people see that you are trying to do your job to the best of your ability, you find more help than obstacles. The key, I believe, is respect.

3. Is it easy to be an entrepreneur and a mother? Why?

Nooo, not easy at all. It is a blessing, but it is very complicated. I feel fulfilled in both fields, which is a luxury, but it requires a lot of physical and mental strength because your life is about trying to give your best all the time. I have to say that Valentina, my daughter, comes first, and that without Javi, my husband, I wouldn't be able to keep up with the work pace I maintain.

4. What values do you like to transmit in your projects? And to your daughter?

I like quality; I am one of those people who prefers to have one good garment in the closet rather than three mediocre ones. It's like that with everything. I try not to take on more jobs than I can handle with the dedication my clients deserve. Regarding Valentina, we have opted for a more demanding type of upbringing than some others, which is already paying off.

5. When you started in this sector, did you expect such a good reception?

The first few years were difficult. You lack experience, and in my case, insecurity made me suffer quite a bit. You make up for that with longer working hours, but even so, you are always on the edge. Now I do it with more joy and confidence, although I continue to learn every day.

6. What would you say to women who want to be entrepreneurs?

That above all, you have to be very hardworking and have a lot, a lot of willpower.

7. What steps do you recommend taking to start an entrepreneurial journey?

You have to believe in yourself; if you do, others will too. And have good friends who bring you back to reality from time to time, even if it hurts.

8. What is the hallmark of Marta y Seguido in your projects?

Well, I don't know. A friend recently told me that they all had something in common, a similar aesthetic line, a seal. From my perspective, I tell you it's complicated; I don't see it. But surely it is so; in all of them, I am governed by the same criteria, by how I understand spaces should be, and this must define a pattern.

9. We have received information that your mother was also a pioneer and prominent woman in her sector, just like your sister. Could you tell us about that?

My mother, together with two colleagues, was the first female firefighter in Spain, and my sister is a photographer. Both have a lot of merit; it would take another interview to cover that.

10. What are your main professional and personal goals?

Professionally, to have the opportunity to take on interesting projects and continue enjoying what I do. To keep my long-standing clients and have new ones be happy with my work. On a personal level, to see my daughter grow up happy and for our family to thrive. It has been a pleasure for us to get to know Marta Domenech up close.
